Leather Grease - Leather Condition

Leather Grease is an all-natural tallow based leather conditioner created for oak bark tanned leathers and other curried leathers. Its made from a special mixture of tallow, cocoa butter, natural oils and waxes. Our conditioner will melt as its being applied and penetrate deep into the dense fiber structure found in oak bark tanned leathers. There are no harsh chemicals and no nut oil for those who are allergic. Leather Grease should be applied to smooth leathers only, and should not be used on suede, nubuck, or shell cordovan leather.

Application Instructions:

  • Clean your leather and ensure it is dry

  • Test a small amount on a hidden area to see how leather will response

  • Apply a small amount to your leather and work it until it melts and absorbs.

  • Allow your leather to dry for 24 to 48 hours and brush it down with your trusty horsehair brush.

Leather Grease may darken your leather when being applied but this will lighten as the conditioner dries. Start with a small amount to determine how much you will need. Leather Grease will melt and spread easier as it gets warmed up and starts getting worked into the leather.

We created Leather Grease specifically with our leather belts in mind but they work great on all smooth leather applications. Here is our recommended way of conditioning one of our Oak Bark Shipyard Belt:

  • Clean you belt as best you can.

  • Warm Leather Grease by working your fingers back and forth in the tin

  • Apply to grain side of the belt (the pretty side) and smother it all over your belt. Seriously, all up and down the grain side. You will see it start absorbing

    • Make sure you get the area around the buckle and the belt loop

  • Flip the belt over and apply up and down the back side of your Shipyard belt

  • Hang your belt up to dry by the buckle. This will take a good 24 to 48 hours.

  • After your belt has dried, buff the leather with a horsehair brush or a clean soft rag.

  • Apply as needed or when your leather is starting to look dry.

25% of the profits from each tin of Leather Grease will be donated to a Minnesota based LGBT non-profit. We are still working on this give back and will have more information when it is available.
